Troubleshooting M3U8 / HLS streaming errors

Most streaming failures come down to a handful of causes. Work through these before giving up on a stream.

The stream will not load

  • Check the URL opens and returns a manifest
  • Look for CORS errors in the browser console
  • Confirm the stream uses HTTPS if the page does

Playback keeps buffering

This usually points to bandwidth. A stream with only high-bitrate variants cannot adapt down; a healthier source offers several quality levels.

Audio but no video (or vice versa)

This often means the player cannot decode one of the advertised codecs. Analyzing the manifest reveals which codecs the stream requires.
